Create an Online Business Selling Information Products

Selling information products can bring you so much money that you wouldn’t need to do anything else; but then, creating the information products that sell takes a lot of hard work too. If you are willing to be persistent and work hard, an information product business can bring you tremendous success.
An information product, in the simplest of terms, is a product that provides a solution to a problem by giving some information. It can be a self help eBook telling people how to paint their house; or it can be an app that reads news to people. It can be a video or a software CD or a website. Wikipedia is basically an information product. The definition is broad enough to accommodate a lot of ideas. But if you are a start up, it would be best for you to conceive a niche product that you can create and deliver yourself.

Creating Information Products

If you have been a teacher in your career, you can think about designing a course in your subject. Teach grammar in an eBook, for instance. If you have been a software developer or a webmaster, you can design an app or a website that provides some information or certain functionality. There are other websites that teach you things and charge you money. These are all examples of information products. Selling information products becomes easy when you have an exciting product.

Selling Information Products

The most important thing is to inform people about your information product. For that you should know who your target customers are likely to be. Here are a few ways you can do that.
  • Social media is a good way to reach people in almost all areas.
  • There are blogs and communities that deal with specific topics and interest. You will need to see which forums are more relevant to your information product and break the news about your product.
  • Of course, you can always do a PPC campaign to inform people about your product. But you should be careful not to spend too much money promoting your product, only to realize later that it is not selling.
  • A great sales pitch is essential for selling information products. You need to establish a sales funnel into which all your channels are leading. Your social media pages, blog, website, forum comments, guest posts, PPC and all other channels should lead to a sales page, where you should put a killer pitch. There are professionals who can help you with that, if you are unsure.
  • It is a good idea to precede the launch of your information product by launching a freebie that’s a kind of teaser about your product. For instance, if your product is a video that teaches people how to make and edit videos, you can edit out portions and make a 30 second ‘preview’ that stirs viewers’ interest in your main product.
As will all internet business models, being able to attract customers is essential for selling information products.

Now it’s Your Turn, Take Action!
